Applied Computing Expands to Bengaluru, Makes India Its Primary Growth Market

Applied Computing

Bengaluru: Applied Computing, the British AI company specialising in foundational artificial intelligence for energy operators, has officially expanded into India with the inauguration of its new Bengaluru office on 12 December.

The move marks a decisive strategic shift as the company positions India as its primary global growth market. The expansion will drive new job creation across AI research, engineering, energy modelling, and commercial operations.

India Becomes Core Growth Hub for Applied Computing

Applied Computing’s decision to establish a base in Bengaluru follows substantial market traction, with its flagship platform Orbital already deployed within major refining operations across India.

The Applied Computing platform is the first foundation model built specifically for energy operations, offering physics-driven, superintelligent optimisation for complex industrial ecosystems.

At the Bengaluru event announcing the expansion, company leaders highlighted India’s pivotal role in global energy dynamics. CEO and co-founder Callum Adamson said India is more than a geographic presence for the firm – it is Applied Computing’s principal market where Orbital is delivering measurable impact at scale.

He noted that the country’s rapidly growing refining and petrochemical sectors, combined with ageing infrastructure, present significant opportunities for AI-enabled operational transformation.

Applied Computing Strengthens Senior Leadership Presence in India

Applied Computing has assembled a senior leadership team in India to accelerate its expansion. Among them is Dan Jeavons, former Shell executive and one of the energy sector’s most recognised AI leaders. Jeavons, who has lived in Bangalore for several years, has joined Applied Computing as President and will continue to be based in the city.

Jeavons emphasised that Bangalore offers unmatched advantages as a digital and innovation hub, including access to highly skilled talent and a strong ecosystem for industrial AI deployment. He stated that Orbital is already generating value across some of the world’s largest refinery operations in India.

Also joining the leadership team is Hari Ramani, Vice President of Commercial Markets, who will oversee customer engagement and global market development.

Ramani noted that India’s energy companies operate complex, ageing, and emerging infrastructure, and require AI-driven intelligence to enhance efficiency while preparing for sustainable transformation. Orbital, he said, is already enabling this shift by delivering actionable intelligence across entire facilities.

Applied Computing Strengthens Investment Backed by Major Seed Funding

Earlier this year, Applied Computing secured a ₹9 million seed investment led by Stride.VC, one of the UK’s most prominent early-stage venture funds.

The round marked one of the largest seed raises by a UK-based AI startup and supports the company’s rapid expansion into India.
